Privacy & Security

Simple Summary

  • Your Stuff is your Stuff
  • We won't sell your work to third parties.
  • All copyright and ownership of your writing remains with you, and we will not place or exercise any rights/ownership over your work.
  • If you post copyrighted material/work belonging to someone else, you are responsible for that, not us.
  • We take your private information seriously - Thusly, we will not sell your personal information to third parties.
  • Your password is hashed and salted using one way encryption. Meaning your password is as secure as can be.
  • For private chapters you make, the link created is a simple "security through obscurity" approach. It is possible someone could stumble upon it if they entered the unique reference, but this is extremely unlikely.
  • As always, if you're doing something you wouldn't like to be caught doing by secret agents, or your Mother, then please don't do it here.
  • Otherwise, have fun! AND GIVE US YOUR FEEDBACK....!

What This Privacy Policy Covers

This Privacy Policy outlines how we will use and look after any information or content you add to Chapterfy. It does not apply to any person or entity outside of our control, for example, visitors, businesses or services.

How We Use Your Information

Account Information

When you sign up to Chapterfy you provide us with an email address and password. You can also give us links to social websites, your full name and a description about yourself and your work.

We store this information in a database to use throughout the website, in public and private areas and thusly you accept that this data may be used throughout the website and may be visible to others.

However, your password will never be revealed to anyone, even us, as it is one way hashed & salted meaning we couldn't even read it if we wanted to.

Contact & Communication

Sometimes the situation might arise where we need to contact you, for example, via email or social media. To do so we will retrieve your contact information from your profile/from the database.

You accept that the data you provide can occasionally be used for us to communicate with you, whether for account specific issues or site wide communications.

Note that we will never ask you for specifics about your account, for example, your password. Never reveal this to anyone.

We may add tracking to the email communications we send so we know how popular they were or if they were worthwhile communications.

Your Writing & Content

Chapterfy by design is for exploring, sharing and reading exciting and awesome creative writing and stories. As such you accept that anything you post on the website is ultimately for the intention of publication that can be viewed by any visitor to Chapterfy.

Note that while we do provide editing capabilities for making your work private/draft - ultimately you should assume that it may eventually become publicly accessible. Either through the leaking of the private link or an error on your part making it visible to everyone.

When something is in "private" mode, it does not have a link to it via the public areas of the website. However, it does have a unique reference that makes it accessible via any browser, if the viewer knows what the link is. We cannot guarantee that someone may not be able to stumble on the item by guessing the hash, but it is extremely unlikely. Either way we cannot guarantee it will not become publicly visible.

Content you provide may also be indexed by search engines and you accept that as a fact of life and publication.

You accept that we have no responsibility to chase down people who infringe on your work, or assist in any legal matters.

You should assume that because your work is available via the website that someone may pinch it, or borrow it and post it elsewhere on the internet. You accept that it is not our responsibility to police any infringements on your work.

You can remove your content at any time from the website and you recognise this will mean a permanent deletion from our servers, apart from our backup servers.

You acknowledge that removing it from Chapterfy only removes it from Chapterfy and if a copy exists elsewhere on the internet that it is not our responsibility.

Information we collect about your usage of the website.

We use third party analytics on the website, meaning that we and our analytics partner receive data about our user base, for example, where they go, what they look at and what they do on the website.

We do this so we can ensure a great experience for our users and understand what is working and more importantly what needs changing.

We may collect and use your IP Address, Location, Mobile Device, Browser, PC/Laptop Device and any information we may get from using Cookies in your browser.

What we will and won't do with your information;

Likewise, if we, or substantially all of our assets, get acquired, or if we go out of business or enter bankruptcy, user information would be one of the assets that is transferred or acquired by a third party. You acknowledge that such transfers may occur, and that any acquirer of us or our assets may continue to use your personal information as set forth in this policy.
